For weeks now, I’ve been hearing a whisper in my spirit, “Make Room.” It’s been persistent. I tend to pack every hour with items from my to-do list. I’ve sensed God wants to do something new and He wants me to get ready for whatever that is. It’s exciting but at the same time, it's challenging.
A verse from I Peter 3:15 has come to mind. I’m using the Amplified version here to illustrate the nuance of meaning. “But in your hearts set Christ apart [as holy—acknowledging Him, giving Him first place in your lives] as Lord.”
If
you asked me, I would say I try to give Him first place, but maybe without me realizing it, things have crowded
in and taken more room than they should have—in my physical life, in my thought
life.
On
the campus of Southeastern University last Wednesday, God begin doing something
mighty. This has been described as an outpouring like we saw at Asbury
University in 2023.
As
I’ve watched some of the livestream, I’ve been reminded of times when I was in
a place where God was moving. No one wants to leave. Services begin at
Southeastern around seven in the evening and go on to three in the morning. At
one point classes were canceled.
A
speaker on Wednesday invited students to repent of their sins aloud and they
began doing so, which brought great freedom. But the movement is not built
around a speaker. At times, there is no one on the platform except musicians
and even they are sitting in the Lord’s presence. It’s hard to explain unless
you’ve seen it, but I have been places like this in the past, and I long for it again.
You
see, these students and others attending are making room. They are pushing
everything else aside and pursuing God. Yes, at some point classes will resume.
But this experience will alter the trajectory of many lives.
The
first day of Lent, Ash Wednesday, is this week. It’s a time of self-reflection,
remembering the Lord’s sacrifice, fasting, and focusing on the Lord. Seeing
what is happening at Southeastern increases my hunger for the Lord to make room
for Him—all the room He wants.
Ifyou want to listen in on the livestream, click here which also has servicetimes and info in case you want to go. They are now open to outside visitors. Let’s not miss what the Lord is doing. Let’s make room.
