When a sheep is lost

Less than a mile from my home, an elderly woman wandered off from her home on Saturday evening. Within a couple of hours an alert went out to the community. Police and even the national guard turned out in droves to search surrounding areas. As a helicopter circled overhead, we were encouraged to check our property for her. As I walked the neighborhood that evening, like others I scanned back yards and wooded areas to see if I could spot this dear one. As darkness drew on, the helicopter disappeared. I wondered who might still be out there searching because I knew she had to be scared and confused. We turned on our porch light to give her a path to our front door in case she wandered this way and unlocked our cars in case she was too scared to knock but needed a place to shelter because temperatures were falling and she probably wasn’t dressed for the weather. Promises and a ramble through the roses

Some of my most viewed posts include those with scripture and photographs. The gardens at the State Botanical Gardens of Georgia are in full bloom right now and the roses especially are incredible. I wish I could take a picture of the scent in that area and share it with you. Along with sharing rose photographs, I also include promises from scripture that have meant much to me over the years. This is in no way a conclusive list, but simply a few from a great many—s ome say there are more than 7,000 promises of various kinds in scripture. Where are you building your nest?

We pulled into a truck stop hours away from home. I looked up and some winged creature, likely a sparrow, had planted her family right in the middle of the “e”—over weary truckers rolling in from hundreds of miles on the road, over kids hopping out of SUV’s to make a chocolate milk stop, and over a woman like me, desperate for a restroom break. I snapped a picture and we moved on. Less than an hour down the road, we sat on the back porch of a quaint Victorian home eating lunch, and I noticed a gourd hanging from the ceiling. I peered inside. Another family, perhaps wrens, were nesting there—lodging in a lovely house designed especially for them. A day or so later, I exited a craft store and found my husband staring at the eave. A family of swallows had built a mud nest high in the corner.
