Here in an edited repost, I am sharing one of my favorite messages for Holy Week today. Dear friends, have a blessed Holy Week and Easter. May His presence be especially real to you during this Holy season. My neighbor’s apple tree used to branch over into my yard each spring allowing the people at my house to enjoy the blossoms. Later in the year, the deer made nightly excursions to devour apples that hung on its low branches. The tree was planted by the family who first built the house next door. In fact, they called the tree by their daughter's name as her daughter planted it when she was just a little girl. When the unexpected gifts help

I am happy to be back in this space but will only be posting bi-monthly for the time being. Still a lot going on. The project Jerry and I have been working on is nearing completion, and it looks like we are going to survive the process (laughing here). Hopefully it will be out sometime in September. I also have another book in the hangar and am trying to get that one out before Christmas. Here’s hoping. For better or worse, we’ve had company almost all summer. They dropped in around June 1, and though somewhat reticent in their social interactions, they show no sign of leaving. For the second year in a row, one of our neighborhood does selected our home as her birthing spot. The twins she bore in early June stayed mostly out of sight unless their mama was with them, but more recently have ventured forth in broad daylight to bask in the sun, give Lucy the old Aussiedor a little excitement (She could never catch one. At this point she can hardly see them), or get a drink from a baby ...

Abigail Adams once said in a letter to her husband, the future second president of the United States and the man whose ideas helped shape the Declaration of Independence, “Posterity who are to reap the blessings will scarcely be able to conceive the hardships and sufferings of their ancestors.” Of the soldiers of the American Revolution, they were sometimes called “peasantry” and “rabble in arms” because of the deplorable state of their clothing. Any uniforms they wore were left over from an earlier conflict. They often went without baths because of digging trenches and moving rock. In John McCullough’s book, 1776, he writes before Washington’s pivotal move crossing the Delaware and surprising Hessian troops, Charles Wilson Peale walked among the troops. “… they looked as wretched as any men he had ever seen.
