A walk through the orchids and verses on love

We visited the state botanical gardens this past week hoping the tens of thousands of daffodils planted on a hillside there might be starting to make a show. But alas, the buds are just beginning to open. But an orchid exhibit in the conservatory was in full swing, so I spent a bit of time snapping a few photos to share. When we need a way

As I make my way again through the Bible in a year-ish, the chapters in 2 Samuel 11-13 once more weigh down my heart. I've written about them before, but this time with a bit of a different slant. They tell the sad story of David and Bathsheba’s immoral beginning, and his destruction of her husband Uriah. Then we move on to David’s son Amnon’s assault on the sister of his brother Absalom and how Absalom did away with Amnon in revenge, then flees. As I said, very heavy. Joab, a relative and military commander of David’s, knew David longed to see his son after years of his son being in exile. So, in 2 Samuel 14, Joab sent a woman to the King dressed as a widow. She presented the case of her supposed son’s killing of his brother and how he lived in exile because of it. She asks the King to pardon the son, which he is willing to do as well as provide protection from anyone from taking her life because of the judgment. Then she said in 2 Samuel 14:14, “When the king says this, ...

Making Room

For weeks now, I’ve been hearing a whisper in my spirit, “Make Room.” It’s been persistent. I tend to pack every hour with items from my to-do list. I’ve sensed God wants to do something new and He wants me to get ready for whatever that is. It’s exciting but at the same time, it's challenging. A verse from I Peter 3:15 has come to mind. I’m using the Amplified version here to illustrate the nuance of meaning. “But in your hearts set Christ apart [as holy—acknowledging Him, giving Him first place in your lives] as Lord.” If you asked me, I would say I try to give Him first place, but maybe without me realizing it, things have crowded in and taken more room than they should have—in my physical life, in my thought life.
