Flat on the Floor Grateful

This has been a season of life where we hardly caught our breath before something else happened. It began with a heart stent for Jerry last fall then proceeded to a diagnosis of bladder cancer a couple of months later. Then we both had pneumonia, and I had a tough time recovering. He had surgery for the cancer, which resulted in challenging complications … and then contracted covid. On the heels of that I was involved in an accident that left both wrists fractured, resulting in a long recovery. This fall, Jerry has gone through tests to make sure the cancer is at bay and is also being watched for another health challenge. And yet, Jerry has hardly missed a beat in all his responsibilities, and I had a new book release this fall. Grace upon grace. We are also celebrating several milestones this year. God is so Good

I wrote this post during the pandemic about our friend, Dr. Charles Boleyn, and his love for the song, “God is so Good." I was unaware at the time that someone had recently taken that chorus and written powerful new verses to it. Recently, while practicing the song for worship, I couldn’t help but think again of our friend, a mentor to so many in ministry. As I sang the song, I found it a comfort because challenging things were happening in my life, but I remembered as our friend always said, God is still good. Like me, maybe you need to hear this again today, too, courtesy of the Lord and our friend, Dr. Charles Boleyn. For various reasons these days, I’ve been especially thinking about our dear friend and mentor Dr. Charles Boleyn. But then again, he was such a great influence in our lives, there’s always been much to remind me of His life and legacy. Even small things like a box of Whitman’s chocolates brings him to mind, because every Christmas, he’d show up at our back door ...

A time of listening

The presents have been opened, the leftovers are in the refrigerator, and we are finally getting to that long winter’s nap. Well, if not a nap, then at least we get to sit down. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I stand so much this time of year, the bottom of my feet are actually tender. After all the going and doing of December, the week after Christmas is usually a time of listening for me. I have never made resolutions, but I do often set goals, and some of them come from this time I spend with the Lord as the year winds down. The distractions have been minimized to hopefully receive whatever the Lord might want to say. It's important to have dreams and aspirations. Those things keep us facing forward, but we need to leave room for God to refine those. I don’t want to reach for something that isn’t of the Lord, so I often think of these verses in James, “And now I have a word for you who brashly announce, ‘Today—at the latest, tomorrow—we’re off to such and such...
